Statistics include information on employment, turnover, gross value
added, net capital expenditure and other financial variables, by

- Scottish Export Statistics
Links to two sources of data on Scottish Exports:
- The Global Connections Survey - an annual survey that provides estimates of the cash value of exports by destination and industry sector for all sectors of the Scottish economy including the primary, manufacturing and service sectors. This source should be used to obtain estimates of the cash value of exports.
- The Index of Manufactured Exports - a quarterly analysis produced by the Scottish Government using survey data collected by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The index provides a quarterly time series of the growth (in real terms) of export sales in the manufacturing industry. This source should be used to obtain estimates of changes in the level of export sales over time.
- Scottish GDP website. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is a measure of the value of goods and services produced in Scotland, before allowing for depreciation or capital consumption. Net receipts from interest, profits and dividends abroad are excluded. Quarterly data can be downloaded in Excel, PDF or HTML format.

Scottish Indices of Multiple Deprivation (Scottish Government)
The SIMD page links to the main report, maps (downloadable as PDF) and
data files in Excel format. The indices were commissioned from the
Social Disadvantage Research Centre, Department of Social Policy and
Social Work, University of Oxford, which has also produced sets of
deprivation indices for
England, and
Wales, and Northern Ireland. The data is based on a wide range of mainly administrative sources, to avoid reliance on decennial Census data. The indicators are based on April, 2001 data sources and the scores are reported by 1999 ward geography. There is one overall multiple deprivation score plus six scores for specific domains of deprivation: income; employment; health and disability; education, skills and training; and geographical access to services.

BERR's statistical publications on energy cover production, transformation from one type of energy into another (eg coal used for electricity generation), consumption, stocks, imports and exports, and energy prices. EOC Research and Statistics (Equal Opportunities Commission)

ESDS (Economic and Social Data Service)
ESDS is a joint service co-hosted by four centres of expertise within the Universities of Essex and Manchester, comprising a number of specialist data services that aim to promote and encourage data usage in research and teaching.It provides access and support for an extensive range of key economic and social data, both quantitative and qualitative, spanning many disciplines and themes. RESTATS (Renewable Energy Statistics Database for the United Kingdom)
This website summarises the results of an ongoing study for the UK Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR). The surveys carried out and methodologies used are presented in text and image form. The reported outputs of the study are in PDF format and cover topics such as regional and national generation, energy mapping and renewable energy policies. There is also a set of external links to other renewable energy websites in addition to national and regional statistics, and annual renewables statistics and energy trends.

Afrobarometer
This research project measures the social, economic and political climate in Africa via comparative series of national public attitude surveys. These surveys are conducted on a regular basis, using a standard set of questions to allow for comparison among countries.
Data from round 1 and 2 of the project is available in Excel and SPSS format for each country.
Annual macro-economic database (AMECO) (European Commission)
AMECO is the annual macro-economic database of the European Commission's Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN). AMECO contains data for EU-25, the euro area, EU Member States, candidate countries and other OECD countries (United States, Japan, Canada, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Mexico, Korea, Australia and New Zealand) from 1960 onwards. Data can be downloaded as Zipped text files or online (Java plug-in required). The online database has a graphical and charting facility in addition to a PDF user guide.
ASEAN Statistics (Association of South East Asian Nations, Indonesia)
ASEAN is the major body which organises political, economic and social cooperation between nations in South East Asia in order to ensure regional peace and stability. The statistics section contains links to a range of macro-economic, financial and trade statistics in a variety of formats including HTML, PDF and Excel. Energy Information Administration (EIA) (Washington, USA)
The Energy Information Administration is an independent statistical agency within the US Department of Energy and it provides comprehensive access to a range of international (and US) energy information. It provides links to reports and tables by energy type; petroleum, natural gas, coal, nuclear, electricity, renewable and alternative fuels; and also by themes such as prices, finance, consumption and international trade. There are state profiles by means of a clickable map. Annual, monthly and summary reviews are produced for most energy types and these are compounded as historical data. An Information Query System is available to provide an interactive mechanism for customising reports from the EIA databases. Eurostat

Charged with gathering and harmonising statistical data from
the National Statistical Institutes of each of the
25 member states of the European Union (as of October 1 2004). The data is then
disseminated, to the European Commission and other EU
institutions, as well as to the public, via a network of European
Data Shops. In the UK, the Office of National
Statistics
(Tel. 020 7533 5888) acts as a Eurostat data shops and distributor of
paper publications.

Groningen Growth and Development Centre (GGDC) (Groningen University, Netherlands)
The GGDC data series presenting measures of economic performance are as follows:
- Total Economy Database which contains annually updated series on real GDP, population, employment and working hours for 125 countries from 1950 onwards. Formerly developed and maintained by the GGDC, this database is now hosted by The Conference Board.
- GGDC 10-Sector Database includes series on output in current and constant prices, and employment by major sectors of the economy for 22 countries. The series was last updated in 2007..
- GGDC 60-Industry Database which contains data on value added at constant and current prices, and persons employed for up to 60 industries covering the economy of the 26 OECD countries and Taiwan from 1990-2003. Previous versions are also available.

Development Indicators (United Nations Development Programme)

The ICOP Industry Database which provides estimates of comparative productivity levels by industry covering 30 countries. Annual series from 1959-2000 for manufacturing are provided. Index of Economic Freedom (Freedom House)
A measure of 162 countries against a list of 50 independent variables divided into 10 broad factors of economic freedom (the higher the score on a factor, the greater the level of government interference in the economy and the less economic freedom the country enjoys). In addition to

International Labour Organisation (ILO) Statistics Bureau
Main page for ILO data and statistics. Contains a description of the statistics available and links to LABORSTA, the online database for the ILO. Documents can be downloaded in CSV format. Internet World Stats
This site is based in the USA and contains statistics for Internet usage worldwide. It contains Internet statistics, broadband penetration, world population data and global trade information. The website is updated frequently. The site is easy to navigate, with links to world regions, countries, and pages on top ten countries with higher numbers of Internet users, top Internet languages, the Internet divide and broadband usage. Some market reports are only available for a fee, but there is much good free information.
Intute Social Sciences - Statistics and Data

Joint External Debt Hub (JEDH)
Statistical tables are provided that bring together data that are

Medstat (European Union) Medstat is a regional statistical programme of co-operation between the European Union and various Mediterranean countries - currently Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey. Statistics are divided into themes, such as General and Regional Statistics, Economy and Finance, Population and Social Conditions. Some summary data are available in tables in PDF. OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) Database on Aid Activities
Jointly sponsored by the OECD and the World Bank, this system covers the activities of most of the 23 members of the OECD's Development Assistance Committee (DAC) as well as those of multilateral development banks and some UN agencies. The CRS (Creditor Reporting System) records over 60, 000 new grant and loan commitments a year and is updated on a regular basis.

Yearbook of the League of Nations
(Northwestern University, US)
The League of Nations was an international organization founded as a result of the Paris Peace Conference, 1919. The League's goals included disarmament, preventing war through collective security, settling disputes between countries through negotiation diplomacy and improving global welfare. The United Nations Organization replaced it after the end of World War II and inherited a number of agencies and organizations founded by the League. In addition to containing the Statistical Yearbook of the League of Nations, Northwestern University Library's digital collection focus on the founding of the League and the League's work toward international disarmament. UNICEF Socio-Economic Indicators Database
The TransMONEE database is a public-use database of socio-economic indicators for Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CEE/CIS/Baltics). The UNU/WIDER (United Nations University/World Institute for Development Economics Research) - UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) World Income Inequality Database (WIID) collects and stores information on income inequality in developed, developing, and transition countries. World Bank research has compiled a large number of datasets from official statistical systems organized and financed by national governments. These WTO pages provides access to a range of resources including statistics, research and publications. Statistical resources include: Trade Profiles; Tariff Profiles; Time Series in Merchandise and Commercial Services Trade; International Trade Statistics (from 1998).
